Hermès Scarf - Le Mors "à la Conétable" - Plissé

This lovely Hermès scarf, entitled "Le Mors "à la Conétable"" is a "plissé" or pleated scarf.  I believe it depicts the horse bits for the constable's horse.  In earlier times, the constable was in charge of the stable!  A very responsible job.  So maybe his horse gets fancier bits to chomp on than other horses do.

Pleated scarves are usually stored curved into a circle - hence the round box.

It was designed by Henri d'Origny in 1970.  It was also reissued in 1985 and there were probably later issues.

The title is printed at what would be the bottom of the scarf:

The photo above also shows that the previous owner wore lipstick.

The spotted or otherwise damaged ones become "wearers," so I don't mind small flaws if I like the design.

The care tag has been removed from this scarf.

It is also identified with Hermès - Paris.

The draping and tying is different with a plissé.  And it's lots of fun to play with.

Hermès Scarf - Feux de Route

 

This lovely Hermès scarf, Feux de Route, was designed by in 1971 by Caty Latham.

The center shows the rear of a carriage with a large lantern.  

Woven wicker design frames the entire scarf.

In the center near the bottom is the scarf title:  FEUX DE ROUTE

In the bottom left corner is HERMÈS - PARIS  ©.

This scarf was designed by Caty Latham, but unlike most of her scarves, this is unsigned.

Caty Latham has designed lots of scarves for Hermès.   Most are signed.  

I obviously like her style, and have blogged most of them.

Like all the vintage Hermès scarves, this is 100% silk.  

I only get the 90cm size, which is the standard for the carre (square).

And, like all Hermès scarves, this drapes well.

 

The scarf looks totally different when plissé (pleated).

The pleating is done by Hermès and I have heard that you can send one of your regular ones back to Hermès to be pleated (for a cost, of course).

Hermès Plissé Scarf

Hermès silk scarves have been made since 1937.  The plissé scarves first appeared in 1980 in an attempt to appeal to a younger crowd.  These are the very same regular scarves, but with pleats ironed into place.  ("plissé" would be pronounced "Please A")

These tend to be stored curled.  When new, they come in a round box.

One of the forums I read said, in May 2012:

 "you can send every silk twill carre (lately dry-cleaned or new) to your H store and it will be pleated in Paris. I did this often without any problems. Last week I received a plisse from my H store and I paid 44 euro for pleating. "

This scarf is Qu'importe Le Flacon

You can see that pleating completely changes the look of the scarf.  The top scarf in red is pleated.  The bottom scarf in blue is standard silk.

Greytstore describes the scarf:

"Flacons" aka "Qu'importe Le Flacon Pourvu qu' on ait L'ivresse...." designed by French artist, Catherine Baschet, and first issued by Hermès in 1988. Her design carries the subtitle “Qu’importe le flacon Pourvu qu' on ait L'ivresse...." or "no matter the bottle, as long as one gets intoxicated" which is a line from a poem by early 19th century, romantic period, French poet and playwright, Alfred de Musset (b.1810-d.1857) about his lover, French female writer and early feminist, Armandine Aurore Lucille Dupin (b. 1804-d.1876) who wrote under the nom de plume of George Sand.

While this line referred to both Armandine and drinking absinthe and wine, the artist cleverly substituted perfume flacons full of heady, intoxicating aromas in lieu of bottles of intoxicating wines and absinthes. As the design was described in the Hermès 1988/1989 Fall/Winter Catalogue...."Perfume bottles from around the world adorn 'Flacons.' The flacons of history lie side by with the flacons of Hermès: the long, elegant bottle of Calèche, Hermès' first perfume for women; the pure lines of the 'Amazon H' bottle; the curves of the horse-bit inspired 'Parfum d'Hermès.' Our artist added whimsical touches to the exquisite detail of the scarf--look at the perfume spilling from unstoppered flacons!"
