End of Summer garden notes

Summer is winding down.
The cabbage, squash, spinach, beets, and chard have been excellent.
The beans would have been good - at least the woodchuck thought so!
All 35 tomato plants succumbed to Late Blight.
Terribly frustrating - all were grown from heirloom seed we have saved. The gardens are on a five year rotation, keeping potatoes and tomatoes at least three years apart. But we were no match for a very cool, very wet spring and early summer.
When it became apparent that the potatoes were also beginning to experience blight, we dug them. They were smaller than usual, because we dug before they were finished, but they are very good.
We had experimented this year with Yellow Finn - very good, very buttery tasting.
