19th Century Chinese Textile

We found a lovely textile on the site of Marla Mallett.

Like many people, we worried that it would not something we would like, but the collector/scholar only sells "on approval" so it can be returned if we did not think we wanted it.
Photo from website.
It is described on the website:
Embroidery
China.  Mid-19th century

Silk satin with satin-stitch embroidery and gold couching.  12"x 25."  Mounted with embroidery and ribbon borders.  Embroidery only:  6½"x 19½."  This elaborate embroidery is in excellent condition. $245   HOLD

NOTE:  These embroideries with lustrous beige or ivory silk-satin grounds are especially difficult to photograph.  They are clean and NOT soiled.

Well, we are tickled.

This looks like two panels stitched together vertically, so we conclude that the original pieces were robe sleeve decorations (like cuffs, but not smaller than the sleeve.)  They are mirror images and have been stitched together and bordered by ribbons.

The embroidery is lovely.

It is in good condition.

Next we need to learn how to frame textiles!
