Oh, Boy, Did it Snow!!!

In the fall of 2016, it seemed like a good idea to find an "age-in-place" home for when we needed it.  And dealing with snow had become quite difficult, so we began a serious search.  We found an adorable little three-bedroom, one bath,  in quite good condition, so we bought it!

It has a full basement and a one-car garage.  The house is on one level and there are three steps to enter.   And that short driveway means less shoveling.  Also, we are the last house on the street that has a sidewalk, so shoveling the sidewalk may not be an issue.

Then came the snow forecast.  We had begun moving things into the house, and new mattresses had been delivered, and the internet was hooked up.  There was already a washer, drier, refrigerator and stove.  (A dishwasher is in the longer term plans.)

They began predicting 8-12 inches of snow, beginning after midnight on March 14.  Schools were cancelled for Tuesday, March 14, on Monday night!  They were saying only a couple of inches overnight, so I made plans to swim in the morning.  Hah!  We had at least two inches by 7AM, and it was snowing heavily.  Scratch that plan!

Although the road was clear, it was coming down hard enough that it would be unpleasant.

It snowed all day, and by midday, the County had closed the roads until morning of Wednesday, March 15th.  They would later close them until 6PM on the 15th.

I could not open the front storm door, so this picture is taken through the window at 7:30AM on the 15th.

D had made a spot for the dog to get out on Tuesday.  Notice the new snow on Wednesday.

D had been shoveling frequently on Tuesday to be able to get the truck out.

By 1PM, he had dug most of the truck out.  What a lot of work.

And when they lifted the driving ban at 3PM, we were able to drive to the farm to check it out.  Todd had plowed some of the driveway, and D was able to get to the house and pick up a couple of things.

But we returned to our snug new home, and we'll stay here until the weather is more manageable.

A neighbor the next street over measured 36" of snow.  The range of reports is 28-36 inches.

It set records for the most snowfall in one day, beating the Blizzard of '93 by a bunch.
